(Poem) An Ode to My Mother

mother 4

Not so long ago, I was a mere speck of nothingness,

In response to your prayers, He fashioned me into a complete being.

You carried me around for nine months albeit you were in profound distress,

Raised me from a newborn to an adult and gave me a life full of meaning.

Stayed awake for nights and held me close with warmth and fondness,

You sacrificed your desires and put yourself last in everything.

Comforted me when I was hurting and soothed me with your healing caress,

Nursed me back to health and relentlessly prayed for my well being.

You held our family together and filled our home with happiness,

Buried your grief deep inside while on the outside you kept beaming.

You read my mind and knew exactly what I wanted even before I could express,

An epitome of kindness since infancy you ingrained in me the virtue of giving.

You taught me how to put my life back in order when I got into a mess,

Forever you believed in me and loved me despite all my shortcomings.

You always knew my worth and hailed my every small endeavor as a huge success,

My confidante, counselor and role model, you inspired me to achieve great things.

A loving soul whose heart is full of compassion and niceness,

Your silly antics and childlike innocence are what make you so endearing.

A trailblazer, you defied all odds with your signature smartness,

Undeterred you smashed all stereotypes and shattered every glass ceiling.

Although there were difficult moments when you faltered and felt helpless,

You still kept us going, and strove hard to give us a good upbringing.

People say, “You’ are just like your mother”, but this I must honestly confess,

If I ever become half the woman you are, I would consider it my biggest blessing.

I am who I am only because of you and my respect and love for you is endless,

O! Mother! Can’t thank you enough for all you have done and continue doing!!

I am glad it reminded you of your mother. We take our parents for granted and sometimes don’t treat them right while they are around 😞. This is the least I could do thank my mom and apologize for not being such a great daughter. BarakAllahu feek and may Allah forgive our parents and elevate their status in this world and the hereafter. Aameen!

This was such a lovely poem mashallah. May Allah reward our mothers with the best in this world and the next Insha-Allah and may we have the chance and ability to take care of them as they took care of us. (www.spicyfusionkitchen.com)
